Well, I am 38 years old. I am married and between my wife and I we have 6 children. Both my wife and I have been married once before and we each have children from that marriage. My previous marriage gave me Colby and her previous marriage gave her Chris and Josh. Together we have Caleb, Kayleen and Jayce. Their ages range from about 21 months old to 18 years old. My wife, Shana, and I have been married for 8 years now.
I have quite a few hobbies I guess. My favorite hobby is spending time with my family. I really have a lot of fun with my 3 little ones and my wife likes to introduce me as her 7th child. My other hobbies include computers (of course), disc golf (otherwise known as frisbee golf), dungeons and dragons, computer games and console games (like the Nintendo Wii). My wife and I also love to read, see movies and, when we have the money, travel.
I received my Associates Degree from Gateway Electronics Institute, a small technical college that was in Omaha, Nebraska but is now out of business. While I was there I learned programming languages like COBOL85 and C. I actually ended up being a programmer/analyst on Tandem systems for about 10 years. About 3 or so years ago I got my break, however, and was allowed to jump into web development with a company in Omaha, Nebraska called Oasis Gaming. I'll always be a little grateful to them for allowing me to learn on the job. While with them I learned PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and some JavaScript and even a little bit of AJAX.
During the time I was with Oasis Gaming I started doing some freelance web development work for a guy I met on Guru.com. He had his own little company that he called BlodgetTech and he had been doing all the web development himself but business was picking up a bit so he needed someone to take some of the work off his shoulders so to speak. He gave me a try and I've been doing work for him as well pretty much every since.
When I left Oasis Gaming it was to try and learn some ColdFusion so I accepted a position with a company called NetShops, also located in Omaha, Nebraska. At first they seemed like a great company to work for but it didn't take long before I was bored. Don't get me wrong, ColdFusion is an ok language and it's pretty powerful but I just didn't enjoy learning it or using it. Also, I could see from the get go that NetShops could potentially have some major problems down the road with how they did their coding of web pages. They didn't like reusing code, in other words they had no standard little library of MySQL queries or whatever to make maintenance that much easier. There were a lot of web pages using the exact same MySQL queries but since they weren't pulled in from a central location, if you suddenly found a bug with a query and needed to change it, you had to change in all of the web pages that were using that particular query, which also wasn't documented. I quickly became tired of the work I had there, which really wasn't all that great anyway. I think they new I wasn't happy because after about 3 months or so they let me go.
At that time I was having a hard time finding the next job. I told my boss at my freelance job, BlodgetTech, about the situation and he agreed to basically take me on fulltime. What I mean by "basically take me on fulltime" is that as long as he had the work to employ me for 40 hours then I would get 40 hours of work otherwise I would only get whatever he could actually throw my way. It's worked out pretty good so far I think.
Anyway, that's a brief bit about me. If you'd like to know more don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Sean Meyer
